More Face Work

Image
More work with my lab experiment protagonist's face.  My fingers snuck in on this one. (I'm using the webcam, since the scanner is currently out of commission).

More Portfolio Work

Image
Working on refining my lab experiment protagonist today. The silhoutte to the left is my first pass at his body plan, and the pencil sketch to the right is a more refined version. I made his arm a little smaller, and worked to give his limbs a kind of cohesiveness. Even though each 'hand' looks different, I wanted it to be more obvious that the limbs on the left are just a deformed version of the ones on the right. Below: working on developing head designs. I took inspiration from tigers, clouded leopards, and an Indian demon mask. I want this to have more of an East Asian aesthetic.

Yet More Revision

Continuing work on my revisions. Here's the newest one:

More Revision

Image
Since I no longer have any page restrictions, I'm now able to devote more pages to the development of my Geth Basestormer. This is the first.

Review and Revise

Image
Today, I started working on revising the final pages from my Art Center project. They're currently arranged all around me on the floor, covered in little pink sticky notes. Below are the first versions of the prop and vehicle layouts that will be going into my portfolio. My main problem with my original layout pages is that everything was too small to read/see without the use of Photoshop's zoom tool. In the process of countering that problem, I ended up splitting the prop and vehicle page apart into two separate pages.

Silhouettes--Radial

Image
I've been working on developing a finalized silhouette for the protagonist that goes along with those holding tanks. Below are some of my process sketches and ideations. I started honing in on what I wanted shape-wise. I knew I wanted more than four limbs, and I'd gotten attached to the thingy that attached to his neck. (I'm going to have to come up with a better name for it). However, my original idea for the final silhouette (see above) looked a little too generic, so I went back to the drawing board (literally). Below are the results. For some reason, my scanner split up the page below up into several little cutouts. Currently, I'm leaning towards the one-digitigrade, one-plantigrade leg arrangement. Still not entirely sure what to do with the arms.

Portfolio process work

Image
I've started work on my design portfolio for applying to colleges. I'll be posting up process sketches and final works as I go for you all to see, starting with this post.  One of the stories I'm developing for this portfolio includes an escaped lab experiment. This means I've got to have a lab. And as everyone knows, any good sci-fi lab has holding tanks for said lab experiments. Above are silhouette ideations for a holding tank. I developed the silhouette on the top left into the one on the top right, and then had the silhouette on the bottom as my other option. I like them equally, so I decided to use both. My protagonist is a prototype for a super soldier, so he's going to have the older-looking tank idea. The antagonists, which are the finished super-soldiers, are going to have the newer-looking tank. Graphic breakouts for one silhouette... ...and for the other. I'm still not done with all the ideating for this particula...

Here's a tiny, tiny sneak peak of what I'll be posting in a couple days. This was my final creature for my Art Center intensive, taking inspiration from the Geth of Mass Effect.

First Post Ever

Hello, everyone! I'm currently a high schooler enrolled in a four-week entertainment design summer intensive at Art Center College of Design. Pieces from this class, and other personal works, should start cropping up on this blog in the next few days. Stay tuned!
